Global freezing… Brrr…
Issued by: Ice Art
Ice Art was commissioned to carve an ice sculpture of the world globe for Hunters Dry. This required all the countries of our earth to be engraved onto the surface using snow.
The sphere was made from a single block cut and welded to create a large cube 0.5m by 0.5m by 0.5m and then the sphere was carved by hand… using a combination of deft chisel and hand saw work, with the blow torch to smooth off areas as they were worked on. Thereafter the planets of the world were carefully mapped out with a hand scribe and a copy of the world atlas to assist proportions. A hand-held die grinder then retraced these scribed lines and once completed, fine snow was packed into the outline and refrozen to create the white contrast on the crystal clear ice.
The text pay-off line on the ice sculpture was also made using the same technique of the snow and the ice engraving.
